Why Pot became illegal
Pot became a Schedule 1 drug in 1970. The federal government claimed pot had a high potential for abuse, no medical use, and not safe to use without medical supervision and it has even been labeled as a poison.
Recent Studies have shown that it is none of the above. Alcohol and tobacco claims more lives per year than Pot has since it became illegal.
Some of the Schedule 1 substances are Bath Salts, Cocaine, Opium, PCP, Heroin and many more. Pot doesn’t even compare to these substances. There are only a handful of “side effects” if you even want to call them side effects.
A user may develop a good case of the munchies ( as some strains increase appetite) or a little paranoia and sleepiness. However its counter parts can cause sever addiction, other diseases from using bad needles and death if used long enough.
Why legalize Pot?
There are several reasons why the federal government should reverse the laws regarding marijuana, and they range from Medicinal purposes to generating clean energy.
Revenue is another reason as the legalization of pot has the potential to generate a steady stream of revenue through taxation and job creation.
Maybe the federal government should take a look at what Franklin D Roosevelt did with Alcohol. They believed that prohibition would reduce many social problems, crime, poverty and mental illness. However, it only made matters worse.
Crime increased, but alcohol consumption only decreased minimally and it didn’t solve any of the mental or social issues the country was dealing with. President Roosevelt reversed the laws within the first week of his first term. Therefore creating badly needed jobs and revenue for an ailing economy.
What Hemp can produce
What can be produced if we legalize pot? Industrial hemp can produce rope, clothing, paper, energy and many more. Industrial hemp does not have the psychoactive drug compounds (THC). Hemp seeds can be eaten raw, ground up, sprouted and even be prepared as a tea.
Hemp can also be made into a fiber from rope to cloth and was used to make canvas for sails, and pure hemp’s texture can be compared to linen.
Our founding Fathers and Cannabis
Many of our founding fathers used pot. They would use it for many of the reasons people use it now. Pain, stress and while in social situations. It wasn’t looked upon as marijuana is today, a bad and addictive drug.
In my opinion the people were led to believe it was worse than alcohol and even cocaine, all of which is not the case as recent studies are beginning to show.
These are just a few reasons why Pot or Marijuana should be legalized. Our country is in great need of new ways to generate revenue, create jobs and clean renewable energy.
It relieves stress, has recently been found as a new weapon for the war on cancer, and much more. Its natural no chemical added ingredients.
If you believe in legalizing marijuana please contact your local officials as well as the federal government. If we all stand together at some point they will have to listen.
